Peek Preview : Xen Project Developer Summit, October 24-25, Edinburgh

xendevsummit
The CfP for the Xen Project Developer Summit finished on Friday. I wanted to thank our Program Management Committee for putting in the effort to put together our program in record time. This was no easy task: we had nearly 50 extremely high quality submissions this year. Despite restricting talks to 30 minutes, we still had to reject many excellent submissions. We have 31 talks in the program, from 14 different organizations.

Program Highlights

This year’s Xen Project Developer Summit program is exceptional: it shows that the Xen Project is gathering momentum outside its traditional use-cases of server virtualization, client virtualization and cloud. We have talks and demos showing Xen running on mobile devices, showing Xen as virtualization platform for In-Vehicle Infotainment systems and as basis for network appliances. Just take a look at some of the talks scheduled:

  • HVM Dom0: Any unmodified OS as Dom0 Xiantao Zhang of Intel
  • “Unlimited” Event Channels by David Vrabel of Citrix Systems
  • Test-as-a-Service and XenRT by Alex Brett of Citrix Systems
  • XenGT: A software based Intel Graphics Virtualization Solution by Haitao Shan of Intel
  • Dual-Android on Nexus 10 by Lovene Bhatia of Samsung
  • Enabling Fast, Dynamic Network Processing with ClickOS by Joao Martins of NEC
  • Performance Development Evaluation of Live Migration on Xen ARM PVH by Jaeyong Yoo of Samsung
  • SecureServe: A Multi-level Secure Server Virtualization Platform on Xen by Jason Sonnek of Adventium Labs
  • Nested VMX by Yang Z Zhang of Intel
  • In-Guest Mechanism to Strengthen Guest Separation by Phillip Tricca of Citrix Systems
  • Xen in OSS based In–Vehicle Infotainment systems by Artem Mygaiev of GlobalLogic
  • Status Update of COLO project by Xiaowei Yang of Huawei
  • PVH Technical Deep Dive by George Dunlap of Citrix Systems
  • Erlang on Xen: Redefining the Software Stack by Maxim Kharchecko

And many more … The full schedule will be published next week.

Birds of a Feather Sessions & Discussion Groups

This year, we will also have space for Birds of a Feather Sessions & Discussion Groups. We first experimented with them in 2011, and decided to bring them back this year. We will publish how you can request a BoF next week. In the meantime you should be aware of the ground rules for BoFs:

  • Each BoF host will get 3-5 minutes (depending on the number of BoFs on the day) to pitch your BoF to the entire audience. Slides are not allowed.
  • After we publish the Xen Project Developer schedule, community members that have registered for the summit can submit a request to host a BoF (specifying a couple of slots in preference order)
  • BoFs are small discussion groups, not presentations. You are expected to take notes (or nominate an attendee to do so) and post discussion notes on xen-devel or xen-api after the summit.

Check this blog and the mailing list for more information next week.

Developer Meeting

We will also be hosting a Xen Project Developer Meeting the day before the Xen Project Developer Summit. Spaces are limited: the event is open to all members of the Developer Community. If you are in Edinburgh and have submitted code to the Xen project, you can register here.

Register Soon

The event is already nearly half sold out: despite the fact that we have not published a program yet. We recommend that you act quickly if you plan to attend. We will publish the full schedule next week, when all speakers have confirmed their speaking slots.

Accommodation

Please note that out room blocks at the Sheraton, The Caledonian and the Hilton are now completely full. We are negotiating room blocks at additional hotels which will be posted here for reservations by Tues, Sept 24th. The Sheraton still shows available on their website outside of our block: if you do want to stay at the Sheraton, book now. For more information see here.

Thank You

A big thank this year’s Program Management Committee for helping to chose the program within 3 days. Committee member are: Jan Beulich (SUSE), George Dunlap (Citrix), Sarah Newman (prgmr.com), Stefano Stabellini (Citrix) and Will Auld (Intel). It is already clear that we will have a fantastic line-up!
